VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Please read through and consider
giving of your time, or
talents as you are able - there
is something for everyone -
even if you are out of our area
- and no donation is too small...
everyone makes a difference
if you have one hour to give or
100 hours or have a talent/service
to offer!
ADMINISTRATIVE
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR:
This person would be responsible for contacting people
that have
signed up to volunteer and assigning them volunteer
duties.
The coordinator should be willing
to receive calls and emails relating to volunteer
activities
at their home-some calls may need to be made in the
evening
or on weekends in order to contact those
volunteers that work outside the home.
Records would need to be kept of contacts, and volunteer
hours.
Attendance at some fund raising events would be necessary
to oversee volunteersunless a volunteer could be assigned
to do this.
Much of the job could be done at home,
but it will be a large undertaking.
ANGELS:
Sometimes someone steps up to help a needy horse,
someone that may not be able to have a horse themselves,
but will go the distance to make sure a certain horse
has all they
may need. Angels may help with vet bills,
farrier bills or other expenses or simply come by
with treats
and some tlc.
It all helps that horse feel special and loved,
especially those that will never be
able to go to a permanent family of their own
due to medical or mental issues.
ANIMAL CARE:
Volunteer to help groom, feed,
muck stalls once barn is raised,
bathe, walk or care for the horses in other ways.
Depending on the situation, horse
handling experience may be needed at times,
but at other times or with quiet horses,
we will be happy to help you learn.
BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS:
We are in desperate need
of marketing pros, financial wizards, project managers,
fundraising specialists, etc. to help us get
on the track to a healthy future in order to be
able to continue to do this work
and care for the horses in our program, and those
needing to come here to survive.
If you can give of your time and expertise
we would love to hear from you.
CHANGE FOR A CHANCE:
Help collect change around your neighborhood
by taking responsibility for placing
donations cans local businesses.
Permission must first be obtained from owners
and arrangements are then made
regarding how money will be collected.
Spare change can really add up!
CONSTRUCTION:
We are currently in need of help to erect our steel
barn
as well as help with building more lean tos, fencing,
running electric, plumbing to new barn once
up, etc.
If you can give of your time, talent or supplies,
we would love to hear from you!
FOLLOW UP TEAM:
Would be responsible for contacting placement
families
to make sure that the horse has settled
in and that everything is working out,
as well as continual follow up in the form of
yearly site checks, as well as making
sure that all information on the horse is updated
(in case family moves, phone number changes, health
issues, etc.)
regularly and records forwarded to TMER on a yearly
basis.
FOSTER HOMES:
Many times there are so many horses needing help
that we cannot possibly make room for them all.
In these cases approved homes may take on the care
of a horse until he/she can be placed
in a permanent home or until space opens up
at the rescue.
Although the most severe cases will stay in our care,
many times theses horses will have special needs -
possibly needing to gain weight or work through issues.
For that reason, foster homes must be experienced
with horses and able to give the time and care an
animal may need.
Foster homes work with our veterinarian and
farrier in conjunction with their own at times and
donate their expenses.
Tax write offs are available for those expenses with
receipts.
Without foster homes, we would not be able to help
certain horses -
please consider this if you have the room to take
on one more horse.
FUNDRAISING AND PUBLIC
RELATIONS:
This is an area that is always in need of help —
without funding, we cannot help the horses that so
desperately need us.
Whether you can help with a one time fundraiser, or
more often,
we would love to hear from you.
Event planning, selling tickets, distributing flyers
and brochures,
staffing booths and tables, computer work, mailings,
etc. are just some
of the ways you can help.
FUNDRAISING MANAGER:
This person would be the one to come up
with ideas,
and then work with volunteers to pull
off the fundraiser.
There should be one manager per fundraiser and this
would
be a great opportunity for someone that would like
to manage
one fundraiser a year and really give it their all.
Attention to detail, being able to multitask,
and being a “people person” are great assets for this
job.
Manager would report directly to the board.
FUNDRAISING TEAM:
This is for the person/people who are interested in
helping with a fundraiser, but who do not want to
“run the show”.
From helping to implement the idea,
collecting donations, distributing information,
running booths, to letter writing, cleaning,
up and money counting, there are always
many jobs available on this team.
GRANTS:
We are looking for an experienced grant person to
donate their
time helping us secure more grant funding.
Volunteers are also needed to help
research possible foundations that may
be a fit for our work and needs.
HAULING:
There are many times when transportation either to
or from the rescue
is needed and we do not currently have a trailer —
sometimes it is to get a horse to
safety and other times it is to help deliver a horse
to their new home.
If you are willing to donate hauling for any area
(all areas/states needed),
please contact us so we may keep your information
on file.
PUBLIC RELATIONS/SPECIAL
EVENTS:
Assist with projects and
special events throughout the year. Various
tasks,
including typing, filing, photocopying, telephone
calls,
press releases, events coordination, local errands,
writing letters.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
Set up, work at, and clean up during fundraising events.
WISH LIST:
Check out our wish list on our website —
maybe you have something lying around that we could
use or would like to
collect/purchase an item for us—donations are tax-deductible!
YARD SALE PROCEEDS:
For those that want to get involved but live too far
away —
consider having a yard sale, bake sale,
trail ride, bowlathon, sponsored walk, charity
sporting event, penny drive, collect cans, car wash,
silent/Chinese auction,
or other event in your area and advertise the proceeds
or a portion of will be going to Tender Mercy.
If you are with a group or other organization
that would like to step on
board and do a joint fundraiser or if your group or
organization
would like to hold an even to benefit
Tender Mercy, we would love to hear from you.
There is power in numbers and the more people we have
involved,
the more successful we can be and the more horses
we can save.
If you live out of the area — please don’t think you
can’t help
— you can —
there are so many ways to give of your time or talent
from where you are.
Maybe you can host a fundraiser in your area,
contact groups/businesses/schools
in your area for donations or help, or do some work
on the
computer-researching, follow ups, etc.
It all helps and we are very grateful for it
all.
You need not give hundreds of hours —
whatever you can give —
it all means something to the horses that we save.
We thank all of you for your help!
